Program Description

The SKY Memorial Foundation is a family more than a business. Our work in dedication to our deceased loved ones to help the lives of these children ensures when you travel to Nepal to volunteer in the SKY school, you will become part of our international family.

SKY Memorial Foundation has been sending volunteers to the remote village of Bastipur 2, Shikharpur VDC, Makawanpur District, Nepal. Volunteers will be helping the primary school children. Kindly find below the proposal for the volunteers to visit the village school and teach the children of the primary school. We hope that minimum of two weeks should be spent there with the children. Stay of 3 nights in Kathmandu and 2 nights in Pokhara are part of the SKY program.

Expenses

Transportation:

• Transportation from Kathmandu airport to Kathmandu SKY Home per person =Rs. 3,500.
• Sightseeing of Kathmandu, Bhaktapur and Patan (world heritage sites) =Rs. 3,500.
• Kathmandu to Bastipur village and back to Kathmandu (Jeep + Bus) =Rs. 6,000.
• Kathmandu to Pokhara to Kathmandu (Tourist Bus) =Rs. 5,000.
• Transportation from Kathmandu SKY Home to Airport for departure =Rs. 3,500.

Accommodation:

• Breakfast, lunch and dinner at Kathmandu SKY Home per day =Rs. 3,000.
• Breakfast, lunch and dinner at Bastipur SKY Home per Week =Rs. 7,000.
• Breakfast, lunch and dinner at Pokhara Fewa Lodge per day =Rs. 4,000.

Fees:

An application fee of $50 USD for processing and making all the necessary arrangements to be paid in advance before leaving for Nepal. Detail information of the applicant’s interest, duration of stay and other detail to be provided for necessary arrangements.

Insurance:

Travel insurance should be purchased for emergency evacuation or medical help.

Visa:

Travelling to Nepal, one can secure visa for 2 months from any Nepali consulate, embassy or upon arrival at airport by paying $30 USD. Additional one month visa can be extended in Nepal by paying $30 USD. In one calendar year one can stay for 5 months.

Total Cost:

The total inclusive cost for the duration of 3 weeks in Nepal will be $800 USD per person to be paid upon arrival in Nepal.

Additional Opportunities and Extended Stay:

Volunteers may also volunteer at the ASNA orphanage in Kathmandu or the ODS orphanage in Lumbini. Volunteers may extend their stay by consulting with the SKY coordinator.

Optional Tours:

Optional tours and programs such as Everest Mountain flight of one hour and other short tours can be arranged at extra cost.

Safety:

SKY will ensure your Nepal visit is a memorable one. All safety measures for your comfort and care will be taken. You will be staying with a Nepalese family in Kathmandu and the life in the villages will be simple yet comfortable. All the basic necessities will be provided. The program coordinator will communicate with you and changes will be made as and when necessary. You will be welcomed in this remote village to experience rural Nepal.
